BoqueriaLet your hair down and eat the tapas up at this award-winning South London favourite
You’re meeting friends who you haven’t seen for ages; you know there will be revelatory shrieks and cackling laughter. It’s not a night for a formal dinner. However, you are all grown ups; you work, you pay your bills, you do the bins. You deserve some decent grub, goddammit, while you exchange your misadventures of adulthood.
The award-winning Boqueria is the perfect setting. Executive Chef Julian Gil Rivera has created a tapas menu with traditional favourites such as calamari, patatas bravas (with an exceptional sauce) and mouthwatering croquetas, alongside more ambitious dishes like lamb confit with caramelised figs, cucumber and mint raita. There’s a great fish selection, as well as a surprising amount of goat’s cheese on the menu. You’ll fight over the suckling pig; don’t worry, the convivial hubbub of this gregarious eaterie will drown out any muttered curses.
A robust wine list will keep you well-oiled, as will Spain’s finest Mahou beer, on tap. Make sure you book; you’re not the only grown-ups who do the bins, you know.
