It's hard not to fall for Halcyon House. Firstly, there’s the location: a stone’s throw from the giant, majestic sweep of Cabarita Beach (bring your surfboard). Then there’s the decor: a once-kitsch motel that has had a very stylish refurb, earning it many fans among the travel mag set. There’s a very good restaurant too, Paper Daisy, and a lovely pool, free bikes and free mini bars in the rooms. Guests tend to be a low-key, monied crowd of Sydneysiders and Melbournites who come to do pretty much nothing besides enjoy the sun and the relaxed, beachy service. All in all? Not cheap but very, very nice.
