Uzès is described as the finest market in the region, with one celebrity food writer calling it the best in France. The market takes place twice weekly on and around the Place aux Herbes. Saturday is the biggie, a general market that extends around the boulevards with 350 stalls. Wednesday is smaller, mostly food, and considered by locals to be more authentic; all produce has to be organic and from the local area, so expect seasonality (piles of asparagus in spring, zero tomatoes in winter). On both days look out for fishmonger Clement who has his own fishing boat, olive oil producers Moulin d’Uzès, and farmers selling their tiny goat’s cheeses. Early does it in summer to avoid the crowds.
