Visiting Wooden Sleepers is as much about poking around the appealing, rustic space as stocking up on fashionably laid-back gear. The superb vintage menswear shop occupies the ground floor of a detached clapboard building that looks like it was transplanted from a rural town upstate. Soft flannel shirts, old-school sports jerseys and T-shirts from various institutions – some with amusing names – are stacked on wooden shelves and interspersed with old metal boxes, thermos flasks and outdoor manuals. Work jackets, broken-in chinos and nicely aged leather jackets hang on weathered metal racks. The shop also has its own line of retro sweatshirts, baseball caps and canvas bags, which make nice Brooklyn souvenirs.
