Fragrance hunters seeking a bottle of Le Labo’s sexy, vanilla-bourbon-redolent, Paris-inspired Vanille 44 need to come to the City of Light itself. The niche perfumer’s nine City Exclusives are sold in-person only and solely in the metropolis that each scent reflects (no online sales, no shipping for this range). That’s not such a hardship. The Marais “lab” (one of five stand-alones in Paris, all of which follow the brand’s moody industrial palette) blends artisan ethos with approachable service. Choose your perfume – the Classic Collection includes 15 unisex creations – and they will formulate it on the spot, mixing the essential-oil concentrate with alcohol and water. Le Labo, which was born in perfume capital Grasse, launched in New York in 2006 and has been part of Estée Lauder since 2014, also produces home and body products.
