BaronFine dining with a touch of flash
It’s been around for just a couple of short years but when it arrived, it arrived big, and big it’s stayed. Located in hip Mar Mikhaël, with its plentiful bars, design stores, galleries and fashion boutiques, Baron is always booked, always lively and always good.
It’s a neighbourhood joint that feels like it should be in Williamsburg or Shoreditch, with a Mediterranean and European mix of food cooked fresh daily, including roasted meats, fresh seafood and farm produce straight from the Bekaa Valley. Food aside, the signature cocktails and local wines will keep you coming back again and again.
A couple of seats overlook the open kitchen, but otherwise smart chairs and tables are arranged inside a square-ish space. Through the back there's an inner courtyard with a beautifully tiled floor and deep green walls surrounded by the densely packed residential buildings, providing an alternate space when the weather gets good.
Order sharing plates and dips between you in typical Lebanese style. Try the taouk carrot dip, or the couscous moghrabi with spiced butter. The atmosphere, as well as the food, is another reason to go. You'll definitely find yourself talking to the neighbouring table and chatting with the staff while low key but hip music plays. Start here, eat, then move on to one of the plethora of bars nearby. Our recommendation: Internazionale for a touch of Beirut/Italian Boho chic.
