B 018Beirut's most famous (and still the best) nightclub
B 018 is still Beirut's most famous nightclub, a place of nocturnal survival. Why? Because it's been around in various guises since just after the Civil War ended in 1990; because its current home was designed by Beirut starchitect Bernard Khoury and is very special indeed, and because, well, it remains the Lebanese capital's ultimate address for decadence and debauchery.
B 018 is like something out of a sci-fi movie, Bladerunner-esque even. With a crowd to match. Located on the site of a former wartime massacre (morbid yet somehow terribly appropriate) the sunken club is a box-shaped underground bunker which has recently undergone a full refurbishment, all grey concrete, low grey tables, and seats up against the wall. Prior to the refurb, B 018 had been decked with seats that flip down like coffins upon which everyone danced.
Being a Beirut club everyone dances everywhere and no visit to the city’s nightlife is complete without spending at least one night and morning here – it doesn’t open till midnight and doesn’t stop till well past dawn. Just make sure to dress the part if you want to get in.
The pièce de résistance? At various points through the party, the mirrored roof opens up to reveal the star-spangled sky and while the music puts you in a trance it's as if the whole world is there for the taking. There's simply no other club quite like it.
