Westerstraat MarketTextiles enthusiast? This market is tailor-made for you

Sewing bees should be sure to make a, um, beeline for Westerstraat’s textile-heavy market on a Monday morning. Although the market has now diversified to offer food, shoes, jewellery and other knick-knacks, the huge rolls of material are still the biggest draw here for wannabe crafters everywhere.
Haberdashers needn’t dash; the market is open from 9am until 1pm, and there are around 200 stalls to peruse. Walk the length of the market and make a note of your favourite stalls, stop for a slice of Dutch apple pie at the renowned café Winkel 43 in the shadow of the impressive Noorderkerk church (the likely queue is worth it), then head back out to make your purchases. The Westerstraat is also home to some great independent shops, so when the market comes to an end, the shopping doesn’t have to.
