In Spring 2018, Restaurant Bar Kantoor opened in Westerpark’s old gas factory office building, establishing Westerpark once and for all as Amsterdam’s park for grown-ups. Kantoor means Office in Dutch ('See you at The Office! Haha!'), but you won’t find awkward formality and bad coffee here. The coffee itself has a story, being Moyee fairchain – a step beyond fair-trade in the fight against Big Coffee. Breakfast and lunch are bread-based, because you are in The Netherlands, and while beef croquette is available for the traditionalists, you’ll also find muhammara, yazzara and other exotic fillings you’ll need to google. Dinner is really the main event here. Fish and steak lovers will do well (the rib-eye is fantastic), as will those with children; the kids’ menu lists meals such as the 'I Don’t Want That' – a humorous touch that might get you through the trauma of paying 9 euros for chicken nuggets. The cocktail menu is also fun, with tipples such as The Freelancer, or The Pencil Pusher. The bar is open until 1am, for those looking for some overtime.
