FoodhallenA treasure trove of gourmet street food for those who can't decide
You know how it is. You’re out with mates in Amsterdam, trying to pick somewhere to eat. One of your party is hungover and can only think of dirty hotdogs. Another eats 'clean'. A pregnant pal will only consider yoghurt as a viable meal, and all of you have overlooked the Dutch obsession with reservations – a table for five on a Tuesday in Amsterdam? ARE YOU MAD?
Fortunately, there’s one place that will cover all of these bases and will guarantee your friendships for at least another meal. Foodhallen is situated in Oud West, in a converted tram depot, which is also home to an independent cinema, public library and a generous handful of boutique shops. Stash your bikes in the free parking facility beneath the building (you’ll find the entrance next to the library) and head into the Hallen with the rest of Amsterdam’s hipster foodie crew. Sushi? Dim Sum? Tiny trendy taco? Or a taste of the local bar snack, bitterballen? And yes, there’s even yogurt, for your pregnant pal. Take your pick, convene on one of the large tables, and inevitably covet the choices of your friends. Yoghurt for pudding, perhaps?
