Stepping through the red velvet curtain of Bellanger on Islington Green is, as is the case with so many of regal restaurateurs Corbin & King’s London ventures (including The Wolseley, Brasserie Zédel and Fischer’s), like stepping into a different world. Not just geographically, but historically too. In this case we’re in a beautiful Parisian brasserie circa 1910, one serving Alsatian and Austrian staples ranging from freshly baked Viennoiserie in the morning to chicken schnitzel sandwiches at lunchtime and confit of duck or choucroute à l’Alsacienne in the evening. Whatever the time of day, the interior is utterly gorgeous, the service perfect, and the overall effect magical.
