It can be a daunting prospect to face the dozens of restaurants on the Ribeira riverside. But worry no more because Fish Fixe (it means cool) is a beacon. In a tiny house by the bridge, you cross a walkway to enter a cosy room. Upstairs, another cosy room and it’s here that you should try for one of the window tables with a river view. As the name suggests, the menu is fish-heavy. The best salt cod croquettes, and the fattest, most garlicky prawns make good starters. Then huge portions of fresh fish come superbly grilled on top of baked new potatoes with the spinach-like ‘grelos’. The staff are charming too which makes this place very fixe indeed.
