For the smoothest brew in Paris, head to this stylish espresso bar in the Marais, just a short stroll from the Pompidou Centre. Every coffee-related detail is carefully considered: the beans are from Antwerp specialty roaster Caffènation, the machine La Marzocco handcrafted in Florence, the menu split into café noir (think V60 and Chemex filtered) and café au lait (ask for a café crème, not a flat white). It’s a compact, relaxed space, taking design inspiration from a train carriage, with swivel tables along a banquette in front, and larger tables (and a movie screen) in back. Eats are simple but excellent: burritos from Emperor Norton, ice-creams from Emki Pop, cakes, cookies, quiche and croissants.
