The Main Market Square of Kraków – which has architecture dating back to the 13th century – has claims to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. There are few better places from which to watch it come to life in the morning than the Szara Bar – sister establishment to the Michelin-recommended Szara restaurant – with its elegant vaulted ceiling and views straight on to the square’s iconic Renaissance Cloth Hall. Sumptuous breakfasts are served here from 8am – miniature feasts such as smoked salmon, boiled egg, capers, onion, avocado, cottage cheese and dark bread can be snaffled for as little as 26 zloty (£5.40). The luxurious hot chocolate is a must for connoisseurs, while a range of quality wines (including vintages from St Emilion and Beaucastel) is on offer for those who visit later in the day.
