The Kings Cross – St Pancras patch has always been a challenge. From historic industrial-red-light to contemporary granite-white-light it’s an area that deals with hordes of railway passengers and horrific traffic. For those that like shiny, hedge-fund development, the new Kings Cross is a sparkling wonder. For those that prefer old-neighbourhood, it can still be found. If you fancy an all-day brunch take a five minute walk from the glitz and seek out Halfcup, an utterly modern take on an old-school café alive with hissing coffee machines and bright young things. A simple, stylish menu takes you through poached eggs, smashed avocado (natch), French toast and the full English. Try for a seat in the window where you can watch the Judd Street goings-on but be prepared to share a table if you’re there at the height of lunchtime. You’ll leave feeling well-fed, well cared for, and well pleased with Halfcup’s authenticity.
