These days the café offshoot at Darsham Nurseries gets more attention than the plants and trees. The light, airy space is open for (hot) breakfasts through to afternoon tea, with brunch served on Sundays, and dinner on Friday and Saturday nights. Dishes are more ambitious than is typical for rural Suffolk; vegetables are to the fore in dishes such as courgette and cauliflower fritters with parmesan, and charred aubergine with hazelnut pesto, feta and flatbread, though steak is usually on the menu too. Ingredients are local where possible: Pump Street Bakery in Orford supplies sourdough and Eccles cakes; Baron Bigod brie comes from Fen Farm Dairy near Bungay. The café is reached via the equally tempting gift and garden shop.
