It shouldn’t be a surprise that Joburg has a lively street food scene considering it has long enjoyed a diverse mix of cultures. Showcasing the best of its traders is this weekly market that’s an undeniably trendy but laudably all-inclusive brunch/lunch/shopping/drinking opportunity. It’s mainly pitched at the city’s artsy student population, who are more than happy to soak up some sun in the terrace bar when they’ve eaten. The crowd also includes kids ogling soft serve machines, tourists sharing biltong and bunnychow, mums gossiping over madeleines and smoothies and young parents sneaking in an afternoon craft beer. Well-curated stalls on the upper floor offer more modern takes on traditional crafts such as leatherwork and beaded jewellery.
