Sidestep the waiters waving multi-lingual menus at you on this Barceloneta promenade and make a beeline for La Mar Salada. This family-owned restaurant is serious about fresh fish: owner Albert personally handpicks the day’s catch every morning at the city’s fish auction. At the helm is chef Marc Singla, who trained with Ferran Adrià of elBulli fame, so you can expect some creative Catalan dishes here that are as fancy to look at as they are delicious. The blue and white boat-inspired interior is sophisticatedly simple, yet you’ll probably want to book ahead for a table outside in summer months. Top tip: the weekly 3-course lunch menu here is an absolute steal at 18 euros.
