In the competitive world of street food trading a good pun goes a long way, winning you extra social media chatter and loyalty from the sorts of customers whose favourite TV show is Whose Line is it Anyway. But even in Portland's famed food truck community only the incredibly delicious vendors become a real life restaurant with walls, no matter how slick and silly the name. The food-obsessed and the hungover would queue at the semi-permanent cart in trendy Hawthorne for hot sourdough sandwiches such as the Yolko Ono (fried egg, pesto, parmesan and sausage pattie) and Free-Range Against the Machine (fried egg, avocado, tomato and havarti cheese). No doubt the new premises, which opened in January 2019, will be just as popular. Spice fiends should make sure to be liberal with the locally made Secret Aardvark hot sauce. It's no yolk.
