Lavinia might sound like the name of your Grandma’s bridge partner, but don’t bring your change purse here – Lavinia is one of Amsterdam’s increasing number of establishments to accept card payment only. Hidden away in an unassuming stretch of Kerkstraat, Lavinia Good Food is the perfect place for a vegan or vegetarian brunch or lunch, although smoked salmon is available with some dishes if you really can’t do without food that used to have a face. Lavinia’s homemade hummus is a staple for Amsterdam vegans in the know, and the cake selection – particularly the cupcakes – will leave you in no doubt that veganism is not without its guilty pleasures. A sister Lavinia café can be found on Amstelveenseweg, south west of Vondelpark, and is usually a little quieter; think leisurely catch-ups rather than raucious bridge clubs. We know your Grandma’s type.
