Show me the way to the next whisky bar may well be your earworm as you trip along Greek Street to Milroys, a shop/bar that has the distinct whiff of old Soho. Founded in 1964 by the Milroy brothers, it is London’s oldest whisky specialist. The current owner, Martyn Simpson (known as Simo) bought it in 2014 to save the place from increasing corporate blandness. Since then, it’s become a go-to destination for whisky lovers; there are around 400 global brands for sale, many of which can be drunk by the glass at the bar that runs the length of the shop. For that speakeasy feel, push through the back bookcase to The Vault, an atmospheric table-service bar – but it’s best to book ahead via the website. Through it all scampers Chester, Simo’s top-boss Jack Russell who deservedly has his own Instagram hashtag. Soho as everyone wants it to be.
