If you’re looking to drink in style, or go on a colourful bar crawl, Portland won’t disappoint – this is a city that has any number of atmospheric, independent bars, designed to perfection. Excellent cocktails, good wines, whiskies and micro beers… Portland has them all and standards are high. Angel Face sits right up there with the best of Portland’s unique and glamorous social settings: stylish and intimate with a striking horseshoe, marble-topped bar as centrepiece and a mirror at the end to reflect the horseshoe right back at you. This bar, which is in the NE, just round the corner from the Laurelhurst Theatre that’s lit up by old-school neon, is going for a French bistro feel and carries it off well, with a menu that includes steak tartar, oysters, pâté and French onion soup. Angel Face cocktails are, not surprisingly, very good and bar staff can either set you up with a classic or suggest something to suit whatever you’re tastebuds are looking for. If you can’t squeeze in at the bar, or find space inside, you can always join the party going on out front.
