Hidden in plain sight on the Strand, The Port House is so dimly lit that you’d be forgiven for walking straight past it. Of course, the lighting is part of the charm and core to the cellar-like feel. Sit at the bar if you can and gaze longingly at the many port bottles on show. Your mind will reel at the size of the task ahead, how will you ever get through them all? Clearly, a flight of ports (or a tasting as they’re referred to on the menu) is the only viable option, followed by a nightly visit if you’re nearby. Daydreaming aside, the tapas menu includes an excellent selection of cheeses to accompany said port tasting – is there anything more idyllic than whiling away the night sampling such treats? You might even forget what’s on the other side of the door.
The Port HouseIgnore the sailors, port is definitely right on such a night
