London Fields LidoAn Olympic-sized outdoor pool in a park? Let us in!

London Fields is a fascinating mix of cultures, like a cross between Glastonbury and The Wire. The same is true of the lido within the park. First opened in the 1930s, it fell into disrepair and was abandoned until 2005 when it was refurbished to become an instant and massive success; so much so that when the sun’s out the entry queues snake around the Fields. Is it worth it? You bet: once you’ve stocked up on snacks from the ace café, staked out a tiny patch of poolside concrete with your towel and dived into the cool (25°c) water to do a few 50m lengths, it is the perfect way to spend a day in the park. And in the middle of winter, with steam rising from the water and barely any other swimmers, it’s even better.
