Originally home to the Vanderbilts, and still owned by the family, Biltmore House and gardens are a stunning example of late 19th-century opulence. The term ‘House’ though doesn’t really do the magnificent structure, containing some 35 bedrooms, justice. The self-guided tour allows you to explore the property at your own pace which helps when there is so much to take in and every room has something exquisite to admire. The gardens and grounds are equally beautiful and it's worthwhile taking a gentle stroll through the various displays, especially in the Rose Garden. Hard to believe that this all belonged to one small family. Prepare to be amazed.
