MagmaBrowse for beautiful gifts, books and prints in this oasis of well-designed calm
Retail therapy was once more about credit cards and fast fashion, but in this anxiety-fuelled city sometimes soothing Scandi interiors and some quiet time to browse is much more welcome.
Originally specialising in art books, Magma is now one of those shops where you can find a thoughtful birthday gift for anyone, be they a cat-obsessed colleague or a Monocle-reading great uncle. And you should probably treat yourself to a beautifully designed notebook or specialist magazine while you're there, too.
Though their original shop was in Seven Dials this is not it, but rather their newest and biggest outlet. It offers space to flick through beautiful coffee table books, to assess which David Shrigley tote is most offensive, to consider who you would invite over to play Bird Bingo and to hold up a sheet of wallpaper so pretty you might just have it framed.
A place filled with things you probably don't need, but you'll definitely want.
