Red Hook is a little out of the way – one reason the waterside neighbourhood has been slower to develop than other super-trendy areas of Brooklyn. It’s either a bus ride or a long walk (20-30 minutes) from Carroll Gardens. A more scenic way to arrive is via the NYC Ferry, which you can catch from the Financial District in Downtown Manhattan, or other parts of Brooklyn. it's worth the schlep. You'll find a smattering of unique shops, good restaurants, a couple of distilleries, and an atmospheric industrial meets small town vibe. Brick 19th- and early 20th -century dockside warehouses are occupied by quirky businesses and art galleries. The area also commands one of the city’s best views of the Statue of Liberty from Louis Valentino, Jr Park.
