Sitting astride the River Dee in north-east Wales, Llangollen is picturesque and full of character. For a small market town, it certainly punches its weight as a centre of things to see, things to do and places to eat and drink. The river runs over tumbling rapids which makes the town a hotspot for white-water rafting while the streets are alive with serious types in hiking gear. Otherwise, more easy-going holidaymakers stroll the streets and fill the numerous café terraces and bars. Climb the footpath up to the Llangollen canal and take a leisurely stroll through glorious countryside or take to the water for a boat trip. While you’re at it, try an oggy, a Cornish-pasty-type local delicacy.
