Looking every inch the setting of a children's adventure story, this peculiar village was the construct of a businessman who wanted to invite friends and family to the seaside but didn't necessarily want to put them all up. The quaint streets, lanes and houses grew up in the early decades of the 20th century and are mostly mock Tudor in style. The country club, beach, boating Meare, picturesque pub, village store and eccentric 'House in the Clouds' make it a popular family holiday spot or daytrip.
