Marylebone is the bit of central London north of Oxford Street and south of Regent’s Park, filled primarily with grand mansion blocks for the well-to-do and high-end stores. Once a medieval village surrounded by fields and a pleasure garden, today it’s one of the inner-city’s more fashionable and elegant neighbourhoods. The discreet Harley Street consulting rooms of private medical specialists coupled with the spacious apartments of French ex-pats means there’s a pretty special offering of shops, restaurants and galleries for all to sample. In fact, Marylebone High Street, where most of the action happens, feels like a pretty street in Paris’s Marais and that ain’t no bad thing. So pop into the Conran Store, grab a coffee at Pain Quotidien and street watch, street walk yourself on down to The Wallace Collection for some culture, followed by dinner in the super hip Chiltern Firehouse later – reservations most definitely required!
