Celleno is a small, easily missed Italian village with magical hill top ruins and breathtaking panoramic views. Meander up from the inhabited part of Celleno, along a steep foot bridge and you’ll find yourself in a largely deserted square, with a charming one-room museum, filled with old vespas and gramophones and a welcoming museum keeper, happy to demonstrate how each gramophone works. Walkways and viewing platforms open up spectacular views, with open-air ‘museum’ rooms bringing to life what was once the Orsini Castle that is now being restored, complete with moat. In the village below, there’s the church San Donato, the medieval convent of S Giovanni Battista (with rooms to stay) and the San Rocco bar, restaurant and B&B.
