Bessas is a classic French hilltop village with stone houses and an exclamation-mark church bouncing sunlight and silence through the tiny streets. The views across the countryside are breathtakingly beautiful while the village is in easy striking distance of the famous Ardèche gorges and limestone Pont d’Arc. The church is famous for its rediscovered and restored Baroque altarpiece that had been languishing for years in a disused garage. With plenty of B&B and gîtes options, it’s a perfect place to spend a night or two and to explore the region.
