Walk & Lunch: Uzès, GardGet to know the old town and its skyline
Start with a mid-morning coffee and pastry at La Fougasse on Rue Jacques d'Uzès, then take Rue du Duché to the left which leads you to the Duke's château. Turn into Rue Boucairie and follow round to the left (look out for the ancient door at no.13). Turn right into Rue Safin and you'll see the cathedral and Tour Fenestrelle ahead. The cathedral is well worth a visit but don't miss the inspiring view of the Eure valley from the viewing platform in the car park. Cross the main road past property agent Emile Garcin and turn left into Rue du Dr Blanchard – you're now in the arts quarter. See what's on at art space La Verrière then follow the road to the end, passing stylish independent galleries and craft shops. Turn right into Rue du 4 Septembre and on to Place aux Herbes, where you can take a welcome lunch at Les Terroirs.
