Walk & Lunch: Béziers, HéraultSee medieval Béziers from the river and the engineering marvel of the viaduct carrying the Canal du Midi overhead
It’s best to walk this in the morning before the sun gets hot. Start at the park in front of the cathedral. To the right, walk down Rue des Albigeois, cross the main road to the left and walk downhill on Boulevard Tourventouse until you see steps opposite the church. Go down these, then the next set of steps. The road ahead will take you onto the medieval bridge. Cross the bridge and take the river path under the modern bridge until you come to the aqueduct – this is the Canal du Midi crossing the river overhead. Walk up the steps, turn right and enjoy the rural walk along the towpath. Eventually you’ll see the Fonserannes Locks. As you pass the car park, check the 9 bus times which will take you back up to the old town where you can take lunch in one of the excellent restaurants around Les Halles or at Le Petit Montmartre.
