Walk & Lunch: Bern, SwitzerlandExplore the length of Bern’s Old Town
From the train station walk along Spitalgasse past the Loeb department store. At Bärenplatz turn right and head into Bundesplatz (parliament square) for a look at the Swiss federal parliament building. Then wander along the Lauben (covered walkways) of Marktgasse towards the beautiful Zytglogge, the city's 16th-century mechanical clock. Keep going along Münstergasse towards the city’s gothic cathedral, one of the largest in Switzerland. The area behind the cathedral sports a lovely view over the Aare, a fast-flowing river that’s a vivid turquoise colour on a sunny summer’s day. Keep going down Junkerngasse to the end of the Old Town, then circle back along Gerechtigkeitgasse and Kramgasse towards the city centre, exploring the boutiques under the Lauben as you go. End your wander with a well-earned lunch at Lötschberg.
