Walk & Lunch: City Centre, AntwerpTake a stroll around Antwerp's cobblestone streets and enjoy a tasty lunch featuring local cuisine
Antwerp’s centre/old town is a manageable size and its winding cobblestone streets are a delight to explore on foot. Start on the pedestrianised main street, The Meir, which sits between Central Station and the Grote Markt (town square). It’s worth taking a small detour past the stunning gothic Cathedral of Our Lady and stepping inside as well if you like that kind of thing (who doesn’t?). Loop down to the waterfront, where the fast-flowing River Scheldt empties into one of the world’s largest sea ports. From here it’s a short walk back to the Grote Markt with its stunning Baroque-fronted Stadhuis (town hall). If you’ve resisted the urge to sample a Belgian beer until now, well done, but thirst no more! Enjoy a tipple and a delicious lunch of traditional Flemish food at Restaurant De 7 Schaken, located just off the north-west corner of Grote Markt.
