Stopover: Paris, FranceA short break taking in some of the French capital's quirkier venues and edgier pockets
Check into the plant-filled, South American-inspired 1K Paris Hotel, ideally situated for exploring both the chic Marais and the more edgy République, Oberkampf and Canal Saint-Martin districts. Several museums lie within just a 10-minute walk, including the Musée National Picasso. But for something more off-the-beaten-track, the Marais’ Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature offers an offbeat look at our relationship with the natural world, including temporary exhibitions by a roster of top contemporary artists. Afterwards, head back past the hotel and along Rue Oberkampf – a mixture of hip and working-class gritty – for a drink and perhaps some tapas or Brittany clams at shabby-chic Café Charbon within a 19th-century coal merchant's premises.
