Short Break: Somerset, EnglandA romantic weekend in Somerset, taking in historic Bath
Credit: Babington House
Bath makes for the perfect romantic long weekend. It's small enough to feel intimate yet big enough to give you options. Rather than restrict yourself to the city centre, why not see a bit of Somerset and stay at Babington House. Once there you may be tempted to stay 'on campus', but rouse yourself and spend a day walking in the beautiful Mendip Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Literary types can stop on the way back to the hotel at Bookbarn International, where a massive choice of second-hand books are £1 each. The next day head to Bath itself; it's packed with history, including the famous Roman Baths. If you're in to sport it has one of the best rugby clubs in the world. There's an exceptional choice of food and drink options, including the vegan Acorn Restaurant and upmarket Italian, Sotto Sotto; try the excellent cocktails at The Dark Horse before you eat. The final day, make the most of the facilities at Babington House (spa treatment or film anyone?) or pop back to Bath if you enjoy browsing independent shops like Found for treats. For anyone needing a weekend away from the hecticness of big city living with a loved one, this short break promises to recharge the batteries in the most pleasant way. Do it!
Suggested Timeframe: 3 days
Need To Know:
James Corden got married at Babington House and so did Eddie Redmayne, but not to each other.
