#whatonethingWhat one thing will you do today?

Sometimes less is more.
That was part of the thinking behind the Need To Know Club when three old friends and a whole host of great writers decided there was a need for informed recommendations of genuinely brilliant places to stop people wasting time on crap.
So how does it work?
Simply put, everyday we tell you about one place that you really should know about. We don't overwhelm you with a thousand places, we just handpick the best places to eat, drink, do, shop and stay in. See it as building your ultimate Bucket List.
The great thing is it's not Trip Advisor. Not that we've got anything against Trip Advisor (I mean we have, but we don't want to come over as grumpy or snooty), it's just that in our experience, people with no taste – or even worse, the venues themselves – write good reviews about bad places. Our reviews are written by professional writers who actually know what they're talking about and have been to each place in real life. They scour their cities looking for gems that will add joy to your life.
We started out concentrating on London but you'll find a healthy smattering of places around the UK, Europe, North America and the rest of the world because they're that good we can't help wanting to rave about them. With time, as we expand, we'll cover more. We love to champion independent shops and restaurants because we believe that diversity is what makes our cities interesting, innovative and drives our community interaction. Fuck The Man and all that.
We're still developing things, but we'd love anyone who adores great food, fascinating shops, fun bars and superb experiences that make you feel a little bit more alive to check it out.
It's also not some weird cult, just in case you were thinking: 'Wait, is this some kind of cult?' It's not, so stop saying that. The only rule of the Need to Know Club is you never talk about the Need to Know Club unless you really like it in which case feel free to shout it from the rooftops.
All feedback very gratefully appreciated. This isn't a huge corporate operation, it's just a group of friends trying to share the things we're most passionate about. If you'd like to help us to do that, get in touch or join the cult (I mean club) or just drop us a line and tell us about a place that you really love and that people really ought to know about. We only want amazing beloved places, they can be old or new, hip or traditional; the only thing that all our places have in common is that word 'love'. That's why there's no ratings on our site. If it's on Need to Know you already know we love it.
'Live. Life. Better.' is our motto – we could have written it in the more grammatically correct way, but we're rule breakers and renegades who won't be held back by your bourgeois ideas about where we should or shouldn't put a full stop (or 'period' for our American friends). Anyway, you get the idea.
Thank you for joining us, you're gorgeous.

Websites are brilliant at being current, for using instant search and for endlessly scrolling for the perfect thing. Book layouts are nicer to read. They just are. Our only hope is that we inspire you to get out and explore.
For #whatonething, we've asked our writers to pick just one thing they think you should drop everything to go and visit. If you like the recommendations, there are plenty more on our website. Our other guides are coming down the track.

We're assembling one of the most experienced international teams of travel writers in the world and we've convinced them to reveal the places they recommend to their friends.
In this particular guide, we've asked them to name the one place that immediately comes to mind. We've then grouped recommendations according to geography: London, United Kingdom, Europe and North America.
We'd love to tell you more about all the great places we recommend to our friends, but this is a members only area.
In a world of too much information and too little time, we only tell you what you need to know.
Trust us, if it's in, it's good!
